Fun in the Snow

With the recent "blizzard" the unexpected snow has brought some unexpected fun. We ran out and got some warm snow clothes both for the time being and for our upcoming trip to Ontario. Chris couldn't resist getting a baby sled for Heidi. And, so, we went off to the park to try some taboganing. Heidi didn't really enjoy it. But we think it was more the cold. She would get upset whenever we would stop moving, but would settle down with some speed and movement. She even went down one of the hills on her own.

Crawling Cuty

As promised here are some pictures of our newly crawling cuty. For the first couple of days she didn't really know that she could crawl and would be bewildered at how she got places. Now she is in full crawling mode. She can get places fairly quickly. She got used to being most places and we have subsequently installed some child barriers to places like the entrance that, because of our recent "blizzard" are covered in salt and melted snow. Unfortunately she remembers how much fun she used to have in there and is getting upset at her new restrictions.

We have a Crawling Baby!

She did it today at about 4:45 and her mom got to see it!! And yes it was "proper crawling". I will be out to the store to get more child proofing supplies this evening. Stand by for pictures.

Rain

So far we've had over 20cm of rain in the past 2 weeks. We are now under a boil water advisory, but everything seems to be OK.

Halloween Fun

Mom and Heidi went trick-or-treating this year. We decided to dress Heidi up in her swimming towel. This towel has a Monkey face, hands and tail. A couple of safety pins later and Heidi was a monkey. You can see her in this picture with her faithful monkey companion (Timmie - not Chris).

We finally had a chance to hand out some candy this year. In years past we were residing inplaces that did not get any kids. We had about a dozen kids come by. Posted by Picasa

Great Weekend

We have just returned from Victoria and are getting back into the routine of things here in Nanaimo after a tremendous weekend with family and friends. On the weekend Heidi was baptized at St Peter's Lakehill in Victoria. Many family and friends made the trip to celebrate with us this Thanksgiving weekend. It was overwhelming to see all of the people who care so much about our special little girl. There were lots of pictures taken, and we would love to compile a collection of them, so if you have any that you would like to share, please send copies to Chris.

We've just updated the galleries with some pictures of Heidi from the time Chris got home from Hawaii until just before the Thanksgiving weekend. The pictures from the weekend will be up soon, so standby.

September

We've had a great month, sorry for the paucity of posts. Our place in Nanaimo is more than less settled. We've even had a visitor; so, the chaos has subsided to a large extent.

The website is working well, none of the throngs of daily visitors has reported any major malfunctions. Chris has found a few bugs and is working to fix them.

Heidi is doing quite well. She is on the cusp of crawling as she has become proficient at inching her way backwards and has developed some strong muscles. We are now feeding her solid food twice a day and she is snacking on rice crackers a few times between meals - it has been a mess. We've really noticed a change in her temperament. Heidi has become very playful and active. Certainly, she has always been a curious baby, but now she is happy to play little games and try to get out and see the things about which she is curious.

We should have a gallery of pictures up soon, so keep hitting refresh and eventually you will be rewarded.

Heidi is Eating Solids

Starting last Thursday Heidi began eating solid food. By that I mean she is eating Pear Mush. She seems to like it, in small quantities, and she likes to share it with her chin, her bib and most everything around her.

For more pictures, you can check out our collection of photos that are now centrally located at: www.chrismaier.net/galleries There you will find many picures of Heidi, and as things continue other pictures too. Of course you can subscribe to the site's RSS/Atom feed to keep up to date.

ChrisMaier.Net has been Overhauled

Well, it has been a long time coming! There was a lot of stuff to clean up and re-organise. That being said, the new site, I think is much nicer to lookl at and to navigate - there are fewer places to get lost. More importantly the site is much easier for us to update, and the we have integrated RSS & Atom syndication so you can keep tabs on the site in a variety of ways.

There are still a few glitches that need to be ironed out, but, keep with us and the place should keep going and get better with each post.

Exciting Times

Christa has worked her last day with the Regular Navy and is now a full time student. She is attending Malaspina University College in Nanaimo and studying towards her Teacher's Certificate. In the last week we have been slowly moving into our Condo in Nanaimo. Chris has since become a professional Swedish Furniture Maker.

Prior to all this excitement the family was in Winnipeg on a whirlwind tour to celebrate Chris' Grandparents 60th Wedding anniversary. It was an exciting visit and Heidi was the star. Though attending to all of her fans made Heidi very tired it was great to see so many family members and friends and to celebrate such a significant milestone.

New Pictures Posted

What a great couple of weeks it has been. Chris is on parental leave and enjoying every minute that he can. Heidi is growing up far too fast and Christa is finishing her last days at work before heading back to school in Nanaimo.

On the Heidi front: She is startting to grow her hair and her eyes are definitely brown. She has started to enjoy blowing bubbles with slobber. It is very cute if not messy.

A Quick Update

Chris has returned from his trip to Hawaii. It has been a long time away and Heidi has grown a lot in the time he was away. But, it is obvious that she has been well looked after by all of the people that helped. Heidi has become a very tall (whe is in the 95th percentile for height) and very squirmy little baby. Right now she is squirming as I type. It is quite challenging. Heidi has begun, we believe, teething and as a result is drooling all over. You can see the drool in some of her pictures. Here are a few words from Heidi "jjjjjjjjjjmm jn i nnnnnnnnnnnnn "

Some Additions to the Site

Chris has had some time to do a few tweeks to the old website. Here are a few things to check out:

The Section "Us" has been updated.

Chris has been working on a family tree and has published some of his work to the web. A few things to note, however, the site is behind a password gate (it is not fully secure). If you want to see what Chris has done, then you will have to e-mail him (or Christa) and ask for a user name and password. Also, for security reasons the details of people in the family tree that are alive have been suppressed. Please help Chris to develop this project by providing research and documentation.

Some Time Off

We just finished a nice visit with Chris' parents. They really enjoyed their time with Heidi. She was really well behaved for most of the time. She is growing every day and is starting to mimic some facial expressions (or so Chris says.) We posted some pictures of the visit in the picture gallery.

You will also notice a new feature on the right hand column of the screen. It is an Amnesty international attempt to curb the proclivities of some countries and corporations to sensor online content. Please do what you can to support this cause.

Visitors have left

This Monday Grandma Mathis and Aunt Jenny left. Heidi and Mom are home together and enjoying eachother's company. Heidi's last checkup was last week (20 Apr) and she had grown 4cm (55cm now) and weighed in at 8lbs 10 oz. We're constantly updating the picture gallery so keep checking it out.

Everyone is Home

Everyone arrived home from Victoria General Hospital Monday the 3rd of April. Grandma Mathis is visiting and helping everyone to adapt to life with a baby. It has been great having all of the help. Things are going quite well. Heidi has had a checkup and is doing very well. Everyone says that she is very healthy. Christa is doing very well also. We've all been out walking a few times. Other than the lack of sleep things are great.
